Abstract
Hydatid disease is a severe zoonotic infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus. Cerebral hydatid cysts are uncommon and constitute only 0.5?3% of all cases with hydatid cysts. Cerebral hydatid cyst is common in childhood, and 50?75% of cases involving the central nervous system occur in the pediatric population. Patients with intracranial giant hydatid cyst require early diagnosis and urgent operative intervention. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography play a key role in early diagnosis and detection of complications such as hydrocephalus and brain herniation.. In this paper, we present images of a case involving a five-year-old female with a giant intracranial hydatid cyst causing hydrocephalus and subfalcine herniation.
